Equity

Supporting students from low-income homes, closing the literacy gaps and providing opportunities for excellence above and beyond the classroom

Reducing the education gap by supporting students from low-income homes allows access to programs, experiences, and classroom supplies which are readily available many of their classmates. Equity also addresses closing literacy gaps in a school district where one in five students is learning English as a second language. Finally, equity funds act as a springboard for talented and gifted student, providing opportunities for excellence above and beyond the classroom experience.

Wondering where you will spend the night, having cleaning warm or cool clothing and shoes to wear to school, or having a growling stomach are adult problems kids should not have.

Maslow Hierarchy of Needs tells us it is hard for a child to learn if these basic needs are not met. Under Equity we currently have the following student needs.

  • “Clothes the Gap”, warm clothing such as new winter coats, hats, mitten, scarves, and boots.
  • “Adopt a Grad”, provides a cap, gown, and tassel for a student who cannot afford.
  • “The Period Project” making expensive menstrual supplies available to girls with least barriers preventing unnecessary embarrassment.
  • Food Pantries in the school.
