Helping every student succeed   

The Sioux City Public Schools Foundation began as a way to provide professional development opportunities to Sioux City Community School District teachers. Our support for teachers remains stronger than ever, however, our focus – and our mission – has expanded as the needs of the Sioux City Community School District have changed. 

Today, our mission is to support the Sioux City Community School District as they educate students to believe in their talents and skills, achieve academic excellence, and succeed in reaching their potential.  

With 14,500 students and 2,500 team members in Sioux City Community Schools, the needs of our public schools are great.  The Foundation and our supporters work tirelessly to fill the educational gaps left unfilled due to limited state funding. Every gift to the Foundation directly supports public education in Sioux City.  

By the numbers  

As Iowa’s third-largest school district, the Sioux City Community School District serves students in three high schools, three middle schools, 13 elementary schools, and an early childhood center, plus a career academy.

• 47 home languages are spoken throughout the District
• 70% of students qualify for free and reduced meals
• Approximately 81% of students district-wide are enrolled in advanced placement courses
• Four-year graduation rate is nearly 90%, higher than the state average
• Students from 10 schools in the tri-state area attend the career academy
