Engaging students in science, technology, engineering, and math
The science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) industry is one of the fastest growing fields in the world. Students with STEM experience are highly sought after because their work is high impact, focusing on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
The Sioux City Community School District is uniquely positioned to create leaders in the field of STEM. Three of the District’s elementary schools focus specifically on elements of STEM.
- Morningside STEM Elementary School focuses on all aspects of STEM as part of its core curriculum.
- Loess Hills Computer Programming Elementary School incorporates technology, engineering, and math into lessons on coding.
- Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary School gives students the opportunity to explore natural sciences into its daily environment.
Additionally, the Sioux City Career Academy allows students to a variety of STEM fields through its Career and Technical Education pathways.
Students in career and technical education programs have a 13% higher graduation rate than students who do not have access to CTE opportunities.
